Introducing the Monoc Evo, our first integrated Nib fountain pen! The Evo utilizes all our learnings from making the Monoc nib, while also incorporating a house made piston filler mechanism, titanium clip, and titanium shell.
For the past three years we have been making our in-house designed and produced Monoc nibs in our Philadelphia based studio, pioneering our innovative manufacturing method of machining the nib from solid titanium. Building off everything we have learned from that process, the natural progression for us was to design a pen that seamlessly integrates with a Monoc nib. In fact, early Monoc designs utilized an integrated concept similar to the Monoc Evo — it quickly became clear, however, that an iterative approach would be the best way to execute that vision. With the trade processes developed for the Monoc nib, along with the machinery, team, and new facility we now have in North Philadelphia, we have been able to design and produce the most impressive Schon DSGN pen to date — a true tour de force.
The Monoc Evo not only features an integrated titanium nib with an Ultem feed, but it also utilizes a piston fill mechanism which was entirely designed, engineered, and manufactured in-house. The piston is designed to be robust, with a seal design which was meticulously tested to ensure it will last for as long as possible before requiring service. Should the mechanism eventually require maintenance, the design was made to be serviced by our team here in Philadelphia (and eventually trusted nibsmiths/pen repair technicians) with stock o-ring sizes (no custom seals) and a simple tool in order to ensure that the pen will have longest possible lifespan without complications for its current or future owners. This easy to use style of fill mechanism has been around for nearly 100 years, and it was a gratifying exercise to study past iterations in order to execute our own version and make our mark on the ongoing history of fountain pen development.
The inner body of the Evo is made from amber Ultem to display how much ink is left inside the pen, while the outer body is made from a thin and lightweight machined titanium exoskeleton that seamlessly blends into the nib. The black Ultem cap integrates an elegantly machined titanium clip for a clean, seamless aesthetic that complements the overall design of the pen — painstakingly implemented details that were informed by our experiences making the original version of our Titanium Shell pen.
Of course, the Evo would not be here without its iconic titanium nib, each hand ground to our unique nib shapes that feature a Fine, Medium, or Cursive grind on the front and a unique reverse writing experience for each style. The nib has a lightly textured finish to provide a smooth yet tactile grip that is equally comfortable for those who want to grip the pen close to the paper or those who prefer to grip further back. As the nib is machined from solid titanium stock, it subtly shifts the pen’s center of gravity towards the front of the pen, resulting in a wonderfully balanced feel when writing without being too heavy overall.
The Evo, like our Monoc nibs, will be made to order from our website and available to buy at all pen shows we attend.
Dimensions are as follows:
Capped length - 145.0 mm(5.7”)
Uncapped length - 132.0 mm (5.2”)

Body diameter - 12.65 mm (.5”)
Weight empty - 34 grams (1.2 Oz)
