Coming Soon- The Monoc Evo

The Monoc Evo - Coming Soon
Introducing the Monoc Evo, our first fully integrated pen, utilizing all our learnings from making the Monoc nib while also incorporating a house made piston filler mechanism, titanium clip and shell.
For the past 3 years we have been manufacturing our own in house Monoc nibs from solid titanium in our Philadelphia based studio. When we launched that project we focused on pioneering our new innovative nib manufacturing method, machining a nib from solid stock, but also wanted to honor all the pens we had made to date with the ability to upgrade their nib to our new Monoc design. Building off the processes we have honed from making the Monoc, the natural progression for us was to integrate the nib into the pen in a more seamless fashion. Initial Monoc designs were similar to the Monoc Evo, but they were just designs and ideas, far from the reality that we have come to today with our trade processes, machinery, team and new manufacturing facility in North Philadelphia. This is the first time we have been able to start with a blank sheet of paper, consider our processes we have been honing over the years as a workshop and truly design the most epic pen we could. A true tour du force.
The Monoc Evo or Evo for short, not only features an integrated titanium nib with an in house ultem feed, but it is also a piston filler pen, entirely designed, engineered and manufactured from scratch from raw materials. The piston is designed to be robust, with a lot of care and testing in the seal design and body design to ensure it will last for as long as possible before servicing. The design was made to be serviced by our team here in Philadelphia (and eventually trusted nibsmiths/pen repair technicians) with stock o-ring sizes (no custom seals) and a simple tool, to ensure that the pen will have an extended life without complications for its current and future owners. The piston operates with a few turns to the back knob to empty out all the air and then fill itself from the front by turning the knob back to a closed position (much like other piston fillers). This easy to use mechanism has been around for nearly 100 years and it was fun to study past versions in order to create our own version that we could produce in house on our equipment.
The inner body of the Evo is made from Natural Amber Ultem to show the user how much ink is left inside the pen while the outer body is made from a thin lightweight machined titanium exoskeleton that seamlessly blends into the nib. The cap features a hidden oring seal to keep the nib from drying out and extend the usable length of time between pen cleanings.
To top off the pen, we decided to machine a thin, elegant clip from titanium and much like the rest of the project aimed to seamlessly integrate it into the cap. It has been very challenging for our workshop to make this clip, but we finally figured out a way to produce this design in house and add this feature to the Evo.
Of course the Evo would not be here without its iconic titanium nib, each hand ground to our unique nib shapes that feature a Fine, Medium and Cursive on the front and a reverse writing experience to juxtapose the primary grind. The nib has a light brushed finish to provide a smooth yet textured grip that is very comfortable for people who want to grip the pen close to the paper or further back. As the nib is machined from solid titanium stock, it subtly shifts the weight of the pen forwards and creates a fantastic balance to the pen when writing without being too heavy.
The Evo, like our Monoc nibs, will be made to order from our website and available to buy at the pen shows we attend.
Dimensions are as follows:
Capped length -145.0 mm(5.7”)
Uncapped length - 132.0 mm (5.2”)
Grip diameter at top of nib- 12.2mm (.48”)
Body diameter - 12.65 mm (.5”)
Weight empty - 34 Grams (1.2 Oz)
Capacity- 1.5 ml
The cap does not post on this model.
